Where: Okeford Fitzpaine Church
WHAT TO EXPECT
When you arrive at the church you will be welcomed and given a hymn book and an order of service. Children are welcome at services and for younger children there are toy bags available for their use during the service or areas where they can play alongside.
There will be 4 hymns dotted through the service and we offer various forms of prayer: adoration, confession and a special prayer for the week, as well as prayers for the needs of God’s world and his people. We hear readings from the Bible and sermon of 10 – 15 minutes will be preached. Half way through the service we are invited to share the Peace with each other. Generally, people shake hands or hug one another and say “Peace be with you” and it symbolises our acceptance of each other just as we are. We also sing other bits of the service – the Gloria (a hymn of praise to God) and the Sanctus (again acknowledging how special God is). The choir helps us in our singing.
A collection is taken during the third hymn for the work of the church and the Minister then leads the long prayer of thanksgiving for the life and sacrifice of Jesus during which s/he blesses the bread and wine which is then shared out among everyone who is baptised. Please come up to the rail at the front of church, and if you do not want to have the bread and wine please bow your head for a blessing.
The whole service lasts about an hour and there are refreshments and a chance to chat after the service.
Minister: Rev Lydia Cook
